Steel H beam introduction:

Steel H beam is an economic section profile with a cross-section shape similar to the capital Latin letter H, also called universal steel beam, wide edge I-beam or parallel flange I-beam. the cross-section of H-beam usually includes two parts: the web and the flange plate, also known as the waist and the edge.

Steel H-beam is a kind of economic and efficient steel section profile with more optimized cross-sectional area distribution and more reasonable strength-to-weight ratio, whose name is from the same section shape as the English letter "H". Since all parts of H-beam are arranged at right angles, H-beam has the advantages in all directions, simple construction, such as strong bending resistance, cost saving and light weight of structure, etc., so it has been widely used.

Steel H-beam application:

H-beam is widely used, mainly for: various civil and industrial building structures; various large-span industrial plants and modern high-rise buildings, especially in areas with frequent seismic activity and industrial plants under high temperature working conditions; large-span bridges requiring large load-bearing capacity and good cross-sectional stability; heavy equipment; highways; ship skeletons; mine support; foundation treatment and dam projects; various machine components.

Steel h-beam specification:

Generally, the web height ( h) * flange width (b) * web thickness (d )* flange thickness (t) with unit ‘mm’ is used to express the H-beam specification. Take 200*200*8*12 H-beam as an example, it means H beam with web height of 200mm, flange width of 200mm, web thickness of 8mm and flange thickness of 12mm. Although the imperial system and the metric system use different units of measurement, most of the H-beams use the above four dimensions to indicate their specifications.
